does anyone know if there are side effects in 20-30 years? that's what i'm afraid of.
- Jaline0
yeah, that's kind of important.
I'm still wary of it, but I think it'll be good to get it done. My eyesight it horrible, and a few years ago I wouldn't have even been able to get the surgery. So I'm thinking I should wait at least 5 more years before getting this relatively new procedure (for those with horrible eyesight, such as myself).

I report that the operation was a complete success. Big difference and nice to lose the small tasks related to contacts or eyeglasses.

I had it done, best thing I ever did. I paid a little more to get it done at moorfields eye hospital...
both eyes at the same time
funky operation, watching your eys get cut open. very 1984

I'm definitely uneasy about it, but I have a high prescription and therefore don't have much to lose.
You know....except for my eyesight.

i'm opting not to get lasik, but not because i'm squeamish about the procedure.
i'm near-sighted with a perscription of -3.50 in one eye, and -3.75 in the other, which means i really do have to wear my contacts regularly. it also means that my natural focal length is about a foot away from my eyes instead of the normal two or so (if i'm reading without my contacts, i need to put the book about a foot away from my face). as we get older, the elasticity in our eyes drops, which means that our natural focal length gets farther away, which is why people with good vision end up having to get reading glasses when they get older. as it stands, if i don't do anything, i won't ever need reading glasses because my focal length will get pushed out to a normal range as i get older. if i decided to get corrective surgery, then i, like most people, would eventually have to pull out my reading glasses to look at a menu when i get older.
the drawback is that i still have to wear contacts, but i've been wearig them for a long time so it's not such a big deal for me.

They only recently had surgery available for people who have eyesight as bad as I do.

I'm thinking about doing it as well, but I don't know the long term effect.

I don't think anyone really does, do they? Hasn't been around for that long. So far everyone I have spoken to seems to be perfectly happy and healthy after the procedure.
