A very talented artist and good friend of mine, Meats Meier (http://www.3dartspace.com/) worked on the tool album 10,000 days that won the grammy for best album art this year. He also does all the tool animations for the giant screens while the band plays on their world tour.
Anyhow, he just sent me this from Maynard's side project Puscifer, a band for which he is also doing all the art work:

what stuff does he do for Tool?
Everything I have seen on tour is from Chet Zar.

He does some of the motion stuff for the giant projection screens. Also some images for merch, dvd etc. Yeah Chet Zar and Cam De Leon do work for the band too. Really amazing shit coming from those guys.
Adam Jones is the real "art director" for the band, he has a very specific aesthetic, and then uses artists like my friend who closely match what he is looking for.

yeah, I know that Adam, Chet and Cam are a close knit group. I have some of their prints along with some Grey prints hanging at home.

Yeah Meats did the artwork for the cover of Maya and Z-Brush, pretty rad. I have a few of Meats' original paintings and a print by Cam De Leon, that shit rules.
Got to meet Cam De Leon and Tool a few times while hanging with my buddy meats, trippy and inspiring dudes.

So what's the deal with APC? Did they break up or what?
I always thought they were pretty good as far as 'side' projects go. Saw their last tour w/ James Iha playing guitar, was an incredible experience.

It would be gret to see one last album.
But I know Iha is out busy with his label, Frieze will now prolly have a long run with NIN and MJK has voiced where he stands with APC and he said 13 steps was it in a recent interview.

I think the first line-up was my favorite. They made their mark with Mer De Noms.

i am one of the few people who liked 13th step just as much as mer de noms, if not better. i thought it was much mellower and atmospheric. the noose is one heck of a song.
