OK. Here is the deal. Need to come up with a proposal in 2 hours. The company needs a identity. I need to create a custom logo. They want at least 3 options, Im willing to give two rounds of changes afterwards. Location: NYC. I would like to charge a flat rate for the logo. What can I call on this?

10 hours of experimentation for $750 after that $75/hr to develop into final logo

Wow a "custom logo".... shit I always used ones from those logo sites or copy someone else's.....
Really:
Concepts 2 days, design 2 days, amends 1 day.

i always quote a flat price for logos and explain it's based on approximately XX amount of hours at your XX $ creative rate.
that way you can benefit from any genius concepts that are realized quickly... or on the flipside, you've got an out if they're not happy after a reasonable amount of creative dev, and you can adjust your quote accordingly.

anyone want to add on this? I got a 24 hr. extension on having to have the quote to them

Fashion District Company. Female Denim. Currently sold in Nostroms. Cost of current demim on floor 50$. The hopes is to have the proper branding so it can jump to 80-100$

there you have it... branding so good it doubles the profits.
oughta get a nice cut of that, 'eh?

i agree with the previous poster.
forget doing it for 'profile' if you're thinking you'll give them a price break because of it. Before you know it, they're making double for their jeans and you're left looking for the next big job to help you pay the bills. No less than 5k (This figure may still be conservative – it depends on their annual sales).
Your reasoning for asking for that much if they scoff at it: they're wanting to double their profits based on what you come up with. Then get them to sign the contract and get to work.

I agree with what Gucci said. One thing to add would be to make sure you get an advance. It keeps both parties honest and you cover your ass and potentially avoid non-payment issues.
Good luck!
