absolutely amazing. Cant believe we spend so little on space discovery and research...

Cassini's sure been sending back some doozies over the past year or so.
Much better than today's APOD offering from a 'graphic artist' in Haifa..

What the fuck? I could've done better than that when I first picked up Photoshop 3 and I've never had the gall to call myself an 'artist'.
(please ignore this morning rant from someone who's not had enough tea yet)

That first image is beautiful
no matter what images humans make, nature and space are still more incedible

Hmm, look at that - two posts that are NOTHING to do with Saturn.
Here are previous Saturn shots taken from Cassini, which I've posted in the PBS before...

When I was a little kid, I wanted to be an astronomer so badly..I still have a bunch of Mead notebooks I made when I was like 8 filled with drawings of constellations and all this space science data. I used to write to Nasa every week for pictures, and damn if they didn't send them to me. I still have some...
The fact that there is no lunar colony or an L5 station has turned me into the bitter, angry adult that I am..
- Jaline0
Same here! I wanted it so badly, but I'm just not naturally gifted with mathematics and physics and don't have the extreme motivation required to become an astronaut or an astronomer. I did Math and Physics until I started university, and then I just let them go. Too much for me.
My current program is great, but I wish I could've done something in astronomy. Perhaps I still could.

I HIGHLY recommend this to you budding astronomers....

It takes a robust computer for it to run smoothly, but it's an incredible free program that will let you explore anything 'out there" at any point in history, past, present or future.

Awesome.

(Mar 2 07, 02:52)That's a beaut of a pic but why is the planet on top of the rings? The rings should be around the planet, not behind it and under it. Right?!?
It didn't explain it in the article.

long exposure time?

thanks ghandolf!!

Space is 3d, Kona! ;)
'NASA's Cassini spacecraft has captured never-before- seen views of Saturn from perspectives high above and below the planet's rings. Over the last several months, the spacecraft has climbed to higher and higher inclinations, providing its cameras with glimpses of the planet and rings that have scientists oozing sputumous glee from every pore and orifice.'

ghandolf-
what is the best way to navigate the solar system?
the light year seems the only way to go but it looks like im stuck in the same place and not really going anywhere.
any tips or help would be great.
- Nairn0
Time is an anthropomorphic deceit, e-pill - an illusion to help our puny human minds cope with the black depths of infinity.
Therefore space and distance are illusions too, so it comes down to the intent of your perception - do you wish to be here? Do you wish to be travelling alongside your kin at a normal rate - or whizzing across the universe at many times the speed of light.
I'd suggest a prolonged course of marijuana and acid consumption to help you come to a decision.
