i think you forgot rivalries like sayyy... i dunno.... Brazil vs Argentina
- Meeklo0
stop calling it soccer please..
if the players decided to wear helmets and huge pads everywhere, america will tune in for sure, beckham has nothing to do with this. it's all about the big pads.. ;)

(Feb 5 07, 07:25)"yea thats a great rivalry. but this one is more interesting (well to me I guess) because its closer to home. yea know? thats way down south.

Okay....
The pro-Mexico crowd, in America (granted Arizona [what does that mean!?]) is kind of depressing.

soccer should have the full rights to the name football.. i mean lets face it...
american football - you HOLD the fucker, whilst running, armoured up to the teeth as far as you can whilst being jumped on by steroidal gymfreaks
you guys KICK the ball on average 15 times a game (after a tdown and to start the play).. its a game thats not foot enough to be called football and not man enough to be called rugby...
from now on to be called.. "armourball" or "testosseroneball" or even "quick-guys-chase-me-and-pile-on... ball"
football is football no soccer.. and its way fucking sweet

oldelpaso, would you like any cheese?
...
Cry me a river, both sides.
If you had nothing to whine and complain about in terms of the naming of both sports, you’d just find something else.

I should probably read threads before calling people out, hahaha.
Despite the thread title, I'm sure everyone knew we were talking about football (from the actual post...); to be honest, no one came into the NFL thread bitching about what the middle consonant stood for it that acronym...

it's because you pull your socs up to your knees stupid...makes sense to me

(Feb 3 07, 14:48)Okay bad grammar aside, you live in San Diego which is in the US.
----
should we expect mexican fans to throw bags of urine at the american players again..
Seff
(Feb 3 07, 16:28)Not on American so... oh wait.
----
hummm, I say tie (1-1)
OSFA
(Feb 3 07, 17:49)And the ESPN Culture cares less, because even though the game may be good from an actual aspect in the tally aspect it looks like it was a waste of time.
----
Again...soccer..who cares...
I played this stupid sport for five years between the ages of 7-12. Could care less.
TheBlueOne
(Feb 3 07, 21:53)Look just because you weren’t good when you were 7-12, don’t let it mark you for life. :D

Okay all joking aside, I can absolutely understand why America will never like this sport. I’ve talked about it at length in the old World Cup thread. Not surprisingly, the way the US plays Mexico was a big part of it. I’ve stopped trying to explain to my friends why I love this sport so much years ago, I just appreciate their ability to sit through games acting like they want to understand. To be honest, if you never played football at a heightened level, you’re never going to like it. I don’t watch who has the ball, I’m watching every other aspect - much like when people are watching the RB in the NFL (ZOMG!), you’re looking for holes in the defense - or if it’s grim, the flea flicker!!! It’s a personal choice, let it go, haha.
I guess it’s weird for me, I like all sports. And I do mean all, haha.
Which could explain my horrible gambling problem, being that no matter how good I was at any of them - I don’t get paid to kick a ball, I don’t get paid to catch one, nor do get paid to hit one with a bat (or stick if you also consider a ball to be a puck).
The blind ignorance (in anything) is what really grinds my gears ... from both ends.

yeah competitive soccer made the game beautiful to me. the chess analogy is apt but ultimatly the excitment is in striking, the dynamic of a good goal scorer is really it's g spot.
i'd never try and convince an american to like it if they don't know it. it's largly cultural same reason why no american is going to love hockey the way a canadian does. they don't see it how we do.

usa is playing catch up with the best sport in the world. with a huge latin/spanish population and a ton of money to succeed in a super lucrative sport and industry, having already some of the best players in the world play on their turf, hosted the world cup...america should not only care but pay beckums even more
M0NEYCIDE
(Feb 3 07, 15:49)me in this thread. is it good form to quote yourself?

Haha yes, I like the runs too (the excitment [sic] is in striking, the dynamic of a good goal scorer), I guess I was dumbing myself down for an audience that won't be back until Nascar is over.
...
What?!
Plus quoting yourself in this was fine (it is no Anthology thread), I read yours earlier but it wasn't succinct enough to comment on, but it was sufficient enough for sure.
