So.......
What do I need to buy?
- ********0
You lot are hopeless.
And fired.
- MichaelFelt0
Moth how much are you willing to spend?
you could pick up a half decent card for £50 mark, but then you might have to replace it?
- ********0
£50 is fine. I just don't want to spend £80+.
I just need the wide res supported, and I want crisp text and sharp images.
- Nairn0
then you need 128mb+ and a good monitor. Beyond that, it's all games...
- ********0
And what's wrong with my Intel anyway? Apart from the low res? Everything LOOKS ok... I can't imagine it getting any clearer.
- Nairn0
"I can't imagine it getting any clearer." Then why ask? Just buy any old shitty card?
On-board graphics effectively prevent most people from properly considering their gpu and installing/upgrading them to something worthwhile, so they stifle development and are strangling the PC games industry (not too important from your perspective, I agree). They are the wedge of monopoly, LowestCommonDenominating your PC, the hub of your life.
More pertinently, they hog your system RAM and offer shitty last -generation capabilities. Again, probably not so important for your Real Ale websites and Princess Diana slideshows.

I had no idea there was a moral code to graphics cards...
So, the more memory it has, the better performance I'll get from my ram right?
Something like this'll do me?

"PC games industry"?
What industry?
Isn't this why we have the Japs making white sticks to throw at the TV? I though PCs were for hard graft work n' shit...
- UndoUndo0
generally the more memory on the card the less it needs to use from the system
this one is faster than the one you linked

check out the frequeny speed (710 against 400 for 12 quid more)

Every consumer decision you make has a moral root, moth.
Review of that card..
http://www.beyond3d.com/previews…imo - if you're not planning on doing games, then pretty much any card from the past 4 years will be fine for you. I mean, if a 256mb gpu costs £30, there's really very little point in worrying about it too much. And yes, essentially - more RAM = more stuff on screen.
I'm not even going to sanctify your "PC Games Industry?" query with a response, you clearly don't care., and I care too much.

Well...
Sorry to say that my cheap, crap, nasty integrated intel is actually just..... working.Download some new drivers and I'm now surfing at 1680x1050.

*pats moth on head condescendingly
- UndoUndo0
should ave bought yrsel a mac moth, that shit will make you go blind

goodness moth. i thought a man of your stamp couldn't be licked.
*doffs hat to nairn
- rafalski0
moth, does it have a dvi-out? if not, do you have ghosting on screen?
btw, video card ram above 16mb is only necessary for 3d apps. My matrox g450 32mb at work drives two monitors smoothly, one of them being 1600x1200
- MichaelFelt0
The PC at work has got a 256MB 9550, it was like £40 and it does the job.
just make sure you dont use the onboard graphics!
- ********0
It's fine rafalski.
I can't see any problems.I thus decided the gaming industry to be a shame that just wants more money from our pockets for things like diet coke and pizzas.
