Hi'sss.
To be honest I've never hosted with MT. Their sponsorship stuff - ya it's cool..... they make a pretty (huge) penny off referrals from it too - so don't think they're just doing it cause they're kind :). I do remember though that back in the day when acta divina was competing for business in the design realm with MT, MT got all knotted up and started blocking emails from anyone that hosted with acta from coming into any MT server.... pretty dirty.
That being said. I'll skip out cause I actually find their prices expensive.
I use dreamhost, and have for about 3 years now - and they're amazing. I've only had to contact them once ever - and they fixed the issue in about 45 minutes.
I'm on the code monster package. Good deal for two years, plus -- all of your bandwidth and server hard drive space continues to grow every day that you keep hosting with them.
I started with 386gb of space, and now have 460gb.
started with monthly bandwidth of 3800 gb, now have 5331gb.
and they're solid. :).
Highly reco.

media temple is overhyped fashionable hosting. for the life of me i can not understand why people are paying that much to let them host their sites.

this?
http://www.actadivina.com/i doubt (mt) was their problem
besides, i think you've got it backwards
"So are Acta Divina blocking emails from MT still? Thu, May 29, 2003, @ 17:51"

i signed up at normal price a week before that promotion. yay.

I think chossy could write a hilarious show about douchebags.

I also switched to mt based on the 50% off "for the life of the account". Sounded too good to be true but I have an email trail (will dig out tonight) of the details and the definition of the "Life of the account" and it clearly stated that unless I canceled / changed the account I would continue to recieve the discount.
Maybe we can start a class action law suite.

I signed up during the promotion only after it was clear that it would be for the life of the account. I know a ton of people asked about it on here too...
Are you keeping the same account lambsy? I thought mt renewed the service automatically? I signed up on 1/18/05 and haven't been billed (except for my domain) since.
This is ridiculous for them to be doing, though. Like the whole Grid-Server thing wasn't annoying enough...

I signed up for that as well the deal was if you wrote a testimonial and used the code it was 50% off for lifetime.
- horton0
... so does anyone have it in writing that mt guarantees the rate for lifetime?
- Dancer0
... I was gonna say and then it was said...
- mpfree0
lied did they?
- OeufOeuf0
So who else has got the 50% off and got it pulled?
- spot130
I just got off the phone with mt...
They said are continuing to honor my discount. Hopefully that doesn't change.
- bunka0
I just got this
Unfortunately, the discount for 'newstoday' is no longer valid and is only applied to your existing service. Please note we do have the (dv) Dedicated-Virtual 3.0 available for clients. We are applying one month credit free, to give you time to migrate all of your files.
