Why take a time honored well known standard logo of governmental purpose and turn it into something that belongs on the side of a bag of chips?

the triangle+circle is also an international standart for cp, i believe.

Right, exactly...those colors, a triangle..they convey strength in adversity to me..this new piece of shit with the stars, etc..looks like crap..looks very corporate and commercial and nothing that instills some sort of trust in authority in time of danger..first rule, if it ain't broke don't fix it. (first rule corollary - unless you can make a shitload of money in a government contract doing it...)

meh, give it another 20 years, a few changes of administration, politics - new agencies, new demands and new concepts of design - then, a penchant for the old, a wistfulness for bygone security - a resurgance of old Americana and lo! Your logo, resurrected, reimbursed, recharged and retreaded (perhaps with some futuristic spangle, shadow, aqua or sheen).
