// He ripped off the Dadaist graphic movement just without the message...

"End of Print" & his work was the reason i started to do design as well. I don't so much love his work now as i used to but i think Carson was king for a time and that time has passed. I respect what he has brought to the table and i would hope the graphic world would too.

You have to admit he advanced typography to a level that hasnt been reached since.
But I agree the new generation has taken over.

haha - that story is epic..
someone should investigate and verify

i heard the same story amp. very prick-like.

who is this "new generation" being referred to, and what have they done lately???

i'm kind of partial to Jon Rohrer, but End of Print still sits on my desk.

Well if someone asked you to talk about your work for a documentary, your going to sell it the best you can.
Jealousy is a bitch.

(Oct 24 06, 09:49)exactly, so i wouldn't want to ruin it by acting in a way everyone would think i'm too full of myself.
i dig his work. like others here said, end of print pretty much opened my eyes to what graphic design was/could be when i was young.
kinda shitty he skips out on conferences though.

OK good, at least it's partially verified. I wouldn't want to spread shit talk and have it come back to me with a knock on the door at 4am with a drunk Mr. Carson, bottle of Jack in hand, looking for a fight.
OK wait that would be kind of awesome.

what a great story that would make

smrz... anyone who's a part of the 'new media' phase such as 'the web' etc is someone I'd define as 'new generation'...
... and I don't mean they have to be working in New Media... but are Fresh in the design field in this New Media 'age'...
... if that makes any sense...
- MKDraconis0
I agree. It's easy to say "not" now that it has been so exposed, dated, and dare I say...emulated?

If I had to nominate an influential designer from the past 20 years to be the scapegoat for opening the door to the vast majority of contemporary, long-haried, boy-bandesque designers, I'd have to go with Dave Carson....

What is it that makes a complete stranger dive into an icy river to save a solid gold baby? Maybe we'll never know...

he's still solid. I take back my 'new generation' jibberish.
I'm sure there is a ton I could learn from him.
Amp's story sounds more like an urban myth - Carson has been around for along time and has 'developed' his style through time which you can definetly see when you look at his body of work chronologically.

Yeah, the guy laughed all the way to the bank and now lives on an island with his own personal point break. Shit, he did something right. Everybody needs to stop hating...

you seen him surf draconis?
