i'd be curious to know how old each of you were when that record came out.

(Oct 7 06, 06:32)I was between 4 and 10 years old. I heard of Nirvana throughout high school, but before then I was into the pop bands. I think the first time I heard Nirvana's music was in various television shows, but I actually started buying some stuff after 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was modified for Moulin Rouge (2001), so obviously it wasn't that long ago.
I don't have much respect for him as a person, but his music was influential to an extent. In reality, I liked some of Hole's music too because I like the basist (Auf der Maur), but that's about it.
Obviously both Kurt and Courtney were/are unhealthy people and I agree with TheBlueOne about him being selfish by leaving his child behind.

...back to the topic:
If we got to play that song in my high school band or any band it would've got me pumped up for practice, that's for sure.

I don't think you can dismiss his significance to the history of pop music. I was 25 when he killed himself. I remember first seeing him on MTV smashing a guitar and I just rolled my eyes and refused to listen. Then one day in a music store I heard About a Girl and was hooked.
His influence extended way beyond outsider teens too.

He died in 1994, I believe. I was only 8.

(Oct 7 06, 06:27)And this is still fucking awesome.
I'm sorry if you don't like it, I guess you're a bigger Nirvana fan than me or something.
You're a joke if you don't like this is what I'm basically saying.

Yea, I was 11, haha.
I remember catching Andy Rooney on 60 minutes, and he just fucking basically shaked his old man stick verbally about Kurt Cobain shortly after he died, and I had no qualms with the man before but I've fucking hated him ever since (Andy Rooney that is).

*puts this thread in a heart-shaped box
you wankers we all know that nirvana is hands down the best group to ever destroy their equipment and kill themselves;
people have be covering the beautiful bastards ever since
fuck, we do a barbershop quartet on "something's in the way" and most people never miss a chance to give forth on about a girl... and keep sing that "i do" "that girl" line into oblivionits surprising how few people are willing to admit their complete and total supremacy even now upteenage spiirit years later
Cobain is turning in his grave because he is a topic on the PVN

I guess the older i've gotten the more I appreciate the guys that are able to stick it out with something approaching integrity and still rock out, like say Iggy...or even *gasp gargle *Roger Waters..
(not selling at least part of your soul along the way is nigh impossible unless you want to live under a bridge and talk to yourself. It's getting back from selling out that's the interesting and really hard bit really)
The survival fascinates me more than the whole dying young and leaving a headless corpse kinda thing...

and tom waits?
- TheBlueOne0
Definitely Tom Waits...
and Lemmy, and the guys from Slayer, and Robert Plant, and Rollins, and ...and...help me out here...
