Have any of you made the leap from designing and coding HTML/ CSS to learning real web development? What language have you found to be the easiest and the best to try to build a simple web app?

these fake web dev i've been making money with have been great so far. so for easy, slack ass way I'd go plug and play CF or PHP

php and mysql would probably be easiest

i went from html css and flash to php, apache and mysql years ago. the reason to go this route was the amount of free resources/communities on the web and free software!! I started put with a book 'php in easy steps' it was a great start and with the use of http://www.php.net never looked back. you might also contact local authorities - depending on yr home post code you could get free training

Php or ColdFusion. ColdFusion is more tag based like HTML as opposed to object oriented though. If you just want to get freelance projects done CF is a good, quick way to go with a pretty small learning curve. I can give you CF/PHP Hosting for a good price if you are interested.
