Hey all, I bought tix to florida for 4 days in 2 weeks for our anniversary.
my wife and i flying into ft. lauderdale, driving down to key west.
We want to go scuba or maybe snorkel a little and kayak out to an island where no one else is and camp and chill and basically just pretend we're in the carribean.
I know absolutely zero about this part of the country other than what i learned on google maps. I also have some preconceived notions about florida based on fark.com.
Any help/suggestions/warnings?

You can look at all the skyscaping condos and think 'wow, just 10 years ago there was nothing'.

As for pretending you're on a tropical carribean island, well that ain't gonna happen with the views and all, but if you stop in Miami (between Ft. Laud and Key West) rent a small boat on Miami beach, pack a picnic lunch, and find yourself a public island to beach yourself at.

boca chita + john pennekamp. got it. i'm stoked. so the islands are just public lands, like a park or something? I mean, can we just grab some kayaks and cruise around and chill on our own island or are there strict rules about that kind of stuff?
