I am just about to buy a new computer, I can´t afford a G5...so the alternative is an iMac: 20 inch Intel Core Duo 2 GHz, with 2gig ram, ATI Radeon X1600 con 256 MB de SDRAM, HD unit: Serial ATA 500 GB...free 30 gig black Ipod and HP printer!
Any thoughts from anyone, that owns or works with such machine, I intend to install the usual graphic packages...any problems...with this new chip? help/comments in general please...thanks in advance!

i only read about complaints and problems with the imaces here in the pvn, i have a dual core intel 2ghz laptop 17inch and its fine...CS2 is slower than usuall but still the machine is lighting fast.
max out on ram and get the apple care and buy an ounce of weed and get some comic books and a sky cushion.

valentim. cause i love you i spent a little time.
your 20" imac will cost you roughly $1,699.00. no tax.
here are some other options for the almost same price.
Refurbished MacBook Pro, 15-inch, 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo. 1699.
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-…Refurbished PowerBook 17-inch 1.67GHz SuperDrive. 1799.
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-…Refurbished Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz. 1599.
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-…I've ordered 2 things now from apple that were refurbished. a monitor and an ipod. both i could have bet money on were brand new. i was expecting the ipod to have scratches but it looked brand spankin new. and, i saved a ton.
if you're looking for a monitor to go along with your laptop, or desktop i suggest the 19" dell which you can pick up for $203.15 from the dell website.
good luck man.
peace.

also, i have heard some bad things about the imac but i have a few buddies working from them and they love them. the system you described with the ipod and such sounds good, but there is something to be said about having a laptop that you can use on your back porch or something when it's nice out. ultimately though, it's up to you and i'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you get.
good luck.

i've been working on a comp. with pretty much those specs for the past 5 months, running cs2/web studio. not really any problems to speak of. it hangs every once and a while if i copy and past large files between ps and illy, but it kicks in eventually.
whatever you do, do not buy outdated hardware. it's a complete waste of money.

haha e-pill. i'm so busy right now but searching for that stuff was fun.
my goal system someday will be the macbook pro, 20" dell widescreen and all bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
that's my system here at work and it's just amazing. at home i use an ibook, 19" dell and all wireless. going from the macbook pro home to the ibook leaves something to be desired. :(
maybe after the wedding. :)

I have got a laptop already..(iBook g3 900) and it was cool a couple of years ago, but I want to upgrade my software and that g3 just wont have it...so I think I am going to go for this one...I´ll wait till tomorrow morning, going to buy a mac magazine and be even more convinced...thanks for you comments...you will be part responsible for my near to come fun...

i work on one at work, same specs with 2gig of ram. don't have cs but it runs final cut smoothly. the render times are half of the older g5.
i just got a mac pro for home and cs1 is super quick on it. rosetta doesn't seem to be much of an issue if you have enough ram. so definitley max that out and you should be fine until cs3 in '07.
