You seem quite boyant in the world of freelance dancer.
Maybe we should meet for a beer and you can give me some tips.
- kelpie0
that's a shame moth - you'll get there eventually (or 'out of there' as the case may be)
- ********0
Yes kelpie but I'd rather not leave by the window...
- rasko40
You should steer clear of jobs entitled 'Semen Sweeper Upper' - that way you are less likely to have such a wealth of experience.
- ********0
Actually kelpie... You have mail.

Thanks Rasko.

Did you have a shit load of savings before you quit the day job dancer? Freelance seems like the best soloution, I'm just quite perplexed by actually making the break.
What about you Rasko? Didn't you recently make the switch?
- rasko40
I've been freelancing since october 04, and while I had considered making the move before, it was actually being made redundant that got me into it, and to be honest, I wish I had done it much earlier. Sure I have had quiet times, but something always turns up, and the money is better.

There are downsides however, such as project involvement/ownership and progression.

No. I didn't decide to go freelance I was kinda left out to dry by a certain agency therefore I had to find work. Luckly everything fell into place quite well. There isn't a huge design scene in Reading so the competition isn't as high as London.
Someone with your skill set is always needed though Moth... I know fuck all and get a way with it...

Dancer, and any other freelancers...
when you went freelance, how did you get work/projects coming in? has it all been from word of mouth?
- Nairn0
wow. this is weird - you were ..er.. in my dream last night, Moth - just a guest appearance, so don't worry - it was nothing kinky or anything.
You were on a BMX and pointedly ignoring me as I tried saying 'hullo' (now there's a window in to my retarded world view).
That's only slightly odd - the weird thing is that I used to work for bd ntwk - first co. I worked for in London. I was one of the first in their new media department before a cull a few years back (i was culled... have never quite forgiven them).
Suffice to say (and as much as I loved that company before all was soured) - You might be better off. When I was there, at least, they were very-much print and below the line oriented, at the expense (somewhat) of the new media section (who had been the significant drivers of some of their major clients).
Do you mind If I ask who interviewed you?
(I'm sure you'll get a better opportunity with someone else!, x)

(Aug 14 06, 03:36)Pure fortune and good luck, right place and right time always helps. Also getting my name out and about. Word of mouth is a very powerful thing.
I haven't used an agency yet thankfully. I always have a few cards to play if I get desparate.
What happend with Bnoir Hue? Your in Maidenhead right?

Just looking at the info now, I think its too far for me to get to as I dont drive. Majority of the time I commute places by train.
Talking of overqualified, i only started freelancing to build my portfolio for a good junior job, I went for an interview a few weeks back and I was told that I was overqualified as they wanted someone to train up!
