how much you wanna bet that in the next 4-5 years, when ethanol becomes more available, more cars on the road can run on it, and when hydrogen cars and hybrid cars take the stage that big oil will announce 'more oil than we could have ever dreamed of was found in so and so land. our earlier estimates were WAY below what we thought there were.'
shortage of oil my ass.

hydrogen is a pipe dream put on by the oil companies. it wouldnt be economically sound to under estimate yourself on your oil reserves. i am not saying i trust them but according to opec rules, your internal reserves dictates how much you can import. countries have totally over estimated themselves in order to shift the the import quotas their way.

A part of me could totally buy that theory. OPEC is like any other cartel I guess.

Hydrogen isn't a pipe dream, it's totally viable it just needs an infrastructure. Nuclear plants, distribution etc. Basically about two Apollo programs worth of investment.

I like, but will my car still get 200 horse on E85?
I like horse.

Yeah, Ethanol isn't going to make oil cheaper.

(Aug 9 06, 13:36)Wrong. Oil demand goes down. Price follows.
For those of you moaning about importing corn from China, or stresses on world agricultural production...The United States kicks ass at growing. I don't think people realize this. We almost double the corn production of China. We pay our farmers NOT to farm. We really have no problem at all producing far more than is needed.

(Aug 9 06, 13:53)Dutch Royal Shell (Shell in short) CEO mentioned recently there's plenty of oil to be drilled but need different technologies though, he mentioned Russia and sandfields(?) in Canada etc.

Price war??? are you joking? cheap oil availablity is decreasing rapidly, most like prices for oil will exceed $100/barrell by the end of this year or sometime next year. that will be HUGE. the housing market will collapse in the near future which will make america's typical subrban "middle class" collapse also as they lose their investments in their house and properties. of course in wal mart's case, this is trouble for their supply chain. the highway system is a horrible system. it costs twice as much this year as it sdid last year to make asphalt. the costs to maintain the highway systems are astronomical as it is. no one will want to ship when their freight trucks get fucked up. btw, target is just walmart lite. theyre all union busting scum that don't pay enough to support anyone. admittedly if i had to choose one, i would go with target. however, when i have the choice i support local business that source local products or obtain goods through a responsible way.

(Aug 9 06, 13:24)wow, that's one deep analysis, but seems valid!

Doesn't sit well with me.
high demand for ethanol from corn will lead to over-harvesting/monocrop agriculture... suddenly it's the dirty 30's all over again and gas takes the hit along with food.
still better than oil or nuclear. just needs to be kept in check
where's my car that runs on water?
