yeah Walmart sux! I hate them BUT are they even in the same catagory as Big Oil? When was the last time Walmart posted 10 billion in revenue in a quarter? Yeah, love to see them cut into that market. Hell at least oil companies would have to cut prices just to keep Walmart from taking "their" market. haha... Ding! Ding! let round 1 start!

If a drug dealer kills a pedophile in prison, it doesn't mean I have to like the drug dealer to be happy the pedophile is dead.
At least there is only one bad guy left.

ya know, normally i don't really agree with anything you say Garret...your politics and mine are as close to polar opposite as can be...
however, i think you're pretty on target here...
i fucking hate walmart, i hate the way they practice business, and i can't stand what they tend to do to small towns...
but...
its like what was said above..you need a big asshole to fight the assholes in big oil.
Walmart is big, they're ruthless, and if they want something, they have the cojones to push it through...something like this could and will lead to a price war with big oil companies, and even better, will spur others to do the same..
forget E85, or biowhatever...maybe someone willl crack the hydrogen car idea wide open...maybe someone will make a car that runs on good intentions..who knows..i look at this as just the start of the birthing pains to alternative fuel....
its gonna be painful...and everyones' gonna scream a bit..
but it'll be worth it in the end.

e85 decreases greenhouse gas emmisons by about 25% right? This is s good step forward but Id still prefer an electric car.

I went into a WallMart fr the first time last weekend and it was fucking horrible. The people...the layout...everything about it was just fuckin horrible.
I'll stick to Target from now on.

Ethanol isn't really ecological viable either, it's just a baby step. In fact it wasn't even economically viable with gov't subsidies until crude oil hit $60+ per barrel.

Build me a car that can run on piss & vinegar, i got plenty of that.

Go Big Oil!

"Many experts believe that so long as ethanol comes from corn kernels or sugar cane, using ethanol for fuel will create stresses on the world's food supply; they favor what's called cellulosic ethanol, which can be made from prairie switchgrass, corn husks or other waste products."
best statement of the article, the grass also takes less to produce

Price war??? are you joking? cheap oil availablity is decreasing rapidly, most like prices for oil will exceed $100/barrell by the end of this year or sometime next year. that will be HUGE. the housing market will collapse in the near future which will make america's typical subrban "middle class" collapse also as they lose their investments in their house and properties. of course in wal mart's case, this is trouble for their supply chain. the highway system is a horrible system. it costs twice as much this year as it sdid last year to make asphalt. the costs to maintain the highway systems are astronomical as it is. no one will want to ship when their freight trucks get fucked up. btw, target is just walmart lite. theyre all union busting scum that don't pay enough to support anyone. admittedly if i had to choose one, i would go with target. however, when i have the choice i support local business that source local products or obtain goods through a responsible way.

Wal-Mart is awesome. They are the biggest drain on almost every state's health care system for their underpaid employees and then they go and do shit like this. I know the story is talking mainly about Lowe's but there are 20 proposed Wal-Marts that are potentially going to move outside of the city limits in Chicago. Which honestly is great IMO, fuck these stores being in the city.

US production of oil peaked in the 70s, mexico's just did(this was ANNOUNCED by the company). that's trouble because the US buys more oil from mexico than anywhere else. its not a myth, its an engineering principle. yes current advances in technology has made more oil available than initially thought, but that only goes so far. they'll never stop pumping and we won't run out, it will just be insanely expensive to do so. how will we manufacture ethanol when the plants needed to make it can be grown on the scale its need to be because the petroleum based fertilizers won't be available at the scale and cost they once were.
