I fully agree with everyone's idea that smart business would be a great help in first, cutting everyone's dependence on foreign oil, and cutting the chord to the middle east. However, this is like saying if only the government would spend less on the military and more on cancer research.
Smart business is maximizing profits at all costs. Not making the planet greener or people happier.

If the gov't would up the CAFE, then we'd get less gas guzzling SUVs and people would rethink what they bought. But again, lobbying is what it is and the fuel economy of cars has barely increased at all. Stupid.
SUVs are not safer than cars. They never have had to meet any of the car safety requirements, since they were classified as 'utilitarian trucks'. Again, lobbying at its finest. Kept manufacturing prices down and safety out of the question. It's changin a little, but to think SUV's are safer is incorrect.
Big metal does not equal safety (just look at F1 cars for that evidence), not to mention rollovers. We just had an accident (tragic accident) here where one SUV rolled over, people died, then another rolled over trying to stop, and killed the people trying to help the first rollover.
I'll stick with little, low to the ground performance cars, thank you.
