my 2-step plan:
1. buy copy of PS 5.5 from Ebay for like $50
2.buy PS CS2 upgrade for like $170 from adobe.
That's a legit copy for < $200
Should I do it?

If the licence is trasferable I think it's a great route to take.

to my knowledge, no Adobe software license has ever been transferable. except *maybe* when a company changes corp status/name; then the license is still valid i believe.

i wouldnt buy software on ebay.

I bought a copy of the Adobe Creative Suite on Ebay (for $200)and have upgraded successfully. There are some legitimate sales on ebay, just be careful when you're buying and try to get things in writing.
