about the same price as my current bike, but it is getting old and dated. bit heavy.
so i am looking into a new bike of this kind!
any other awesome recommendations in the same pricing range?
cheers!

First off, I commend you on choosing a Canadian made bike.
Secondly, what type of riding do you plan to do with it?

i am not hitting the mountains with them. i jsut want a bike i can go offroad with and one that is tough and flexible.
there are no mountains here.
i do not know too many brands but i found these. i will be glad to see other brands.
btw. i would love to have a lightweight model!!

I have an 04 dawg matic. same frame cheaper parts. Actually I think the new ones have an inch more rear suspension. The dawgs are a pretty good bike if you are looking for a more "heavy duty" xc bike. Wouldn't really take it off any serious drops mind you. But it can handle its fair shair. Good for longer rides because it's not as heavy as a full out freeride bike.
I would give my dawg matic like 3.5 out of 5, I am going to upgrade some parts hopefully this season, that is where it is lacking. This is the bike I originally wanted,

However I went to the bike show last year and saw the dawg matic for a really cheap price so I snapped it up.
Banshee make good bikes check em out...And it's a Canadian company!
(as a side note, their old website was like 10x better)

Also, maybe look at the 05 models, you will probably save some $$$.

I'd suggest going for a local (european) make. Konas are a good bike, I own one myself, but you're paying a premiun for the transportation/tax/name in Europe.

i thought anything that's not your typical dutch bike automatically gets stolen over there? or is that only in the cities?
- ********0
only in big cities. well i don't really like most of our national brands, most of them are average at best.. still looking into this. i will give it time..
thanks for the advice everyone!!
