they're not actually for paperweights, they're for finisher's medals but this rough pewter finish found on this paperweight is what i'm looking for...

The finish on that piece is the result of sand casting and it looks like sand cast aluminum to me. Google 'sand cast metal' - it looked like there were some decent links.
