i have 2 layers in illi(CS)
i would like to create a .pdf with 2 pages, one for each layer.
how is this done?

freehand
: )

print each layer seperately and combine the two pages in acrobat.
to print only one layer double-click the layer and deselect the prinable option (although it should only print visable data it sometimes doesnt depending on your setup).

hahaha. good call!

bring each layer into photoshop (as seperat layers of course) then put them all as different layer comps. go to File - Scripts - Layer Comps to PDF.
if you are in CS2, you can also bring them in as smart objects, which will retain their vector status.
that will put them all in one pdf

Real simple, but I don't have Illustrator open to double-check the steps. Lay out your pages one on top of the other or side by side. Whatever. Then select File> Print. Find the Setup option group and there will be options for printing on multiple pages and other such nonsense, like adding margins, etc.
Then just print to PDF and it'll make a two-page PDf for you. Easy peasy. :)

Tiling full pages - that's the option you want. Works like a charm.

i wouldn't say charm, you have to play with the pages sizes a bit so you can set it up. i guess once you pick the page size that will allow the artwork to fit on just two pages, then it's not so bad. just got to play with the tiling function.
go to the Help in Illustrator and do a search for multiple page pdf. it will give you step by step instructions on what welded explained.
i found a script that is close to exporting to pdf but it doesn't go off layers. i'll try to manipulate it a bit to see if i can get it to work, but it's AppleScript though, not java.

or just copy each layer into a separate page in InDesign and just export as pdf.

did you try punching a baby?

corel
as many pages as you have is how many pages it exports
you figure illustrator would catch on to this page revolution going on
