[sarcasm]3d Studio Max and Maya are the same thing?[/sarcasm]

thank you

Start with Maya, It's easier to pick up, and the knowledge translates to Max better then the other way around.
That said, the VTC tutorials should get you started, then move to Gnomon DVD'sGood luck...

(Jan 6 06, 15:59)No son, learn a proper 3D package instead of your 3rd rate cracked version of every Babylon 5 fanboy's favourite.
The main reason Max gained any foothold in the nineties was because the original 3DS was the only package that ran on PC's instead of dedicated hardware and therefore made it onto every 3D hobbyist's home machine.
Try the help files, try Googling '3DS max tutorials'. You'll find them on the sites with the chrome female robots and Pyrotechnics stock effects.
Or are you just anouncing to NT son's going 3D?

(Jan 7 06, 01:34)Well, yeah... You don't think all those Babylon 5 fanboys paid for it did you?

i'm now working in modo.i highly recommend it.

tank
only heard about modo recently.
is it a viable alternative to MAX [my tool of trade] or Maya?
allows your own scripting [like MAX sdk], for instance? and plugins?
thx in advance.
- tank020
to unfit.
i don't think its a viable alterantive though.
its good prog with a very easy and logical interface..
you can do your own scripting tough(if you mean making actions by this)
the plugins are the same as lightwave because its made by the same people, its sort of a repalcement modelere, for animation you still need the lightwave module.but i just got into it.i come from a combustion/after effects background..but that just doesnt cut it anymore...

I don't know if it's been mentioned already but Lynda.com(http://www.lynda.com) I found to be the best tutorial website. They teach you in video tutorials you download. They have a monthly fee of $25 but trust me it's worth it, not just for learning 3D Studio Max but any application.
