on the same network, but he's on an Acer Windows notebook and i am on my brand new Powerbook. But his connection to the internet is twice as fast!! Why is that? Are Macs making the internets slower??

yeah the acer is ok (year old also), but not top of the line. I think I'd go with asus or sony on a new one. fujitsu siemens seem also good for the price
