I would say that yes, it can be dangerous to apply left and right, you can become a pain for a friend, specially as you commented, what if they find you a job but you cant take it because you found something else?
Best thing is to be honest and tell your friends that you are desperate but that you wont pick the first offer, that way they will know if they have time to help you.
Also, do your work, you cant expect everyone to help you if you have a crappy portfolio. Maybe you need to brush up your skills before going out to the real world.
Also remember that the .COM bomb is dying and its harder to find jobs since everyone "knows" some one who "knows" how to design. so make sure you stand out of the rest.

Does it seem like i'm desperate for a job? I guess i'm just anxious to work.
I only started contacting headhunters i used before and one got me a really good job interview, but i don't know if i should look around.
I'm also kind of scared because i use to work freelane in Toronto but moved away for a contract job and basically been out of touch with the freelance world. With the exception of a few places.
I guess i don't want to return to Toronto and then not have enough freelance clients to work with. :(
why is life so hard.

i've got a friend who's got Masters and Double Degree... but without work experience.
She sent out resumes to over 100+ companies... all silence, or reject saying that she's over qualified and they didn't want to underpay her.

wow that must suck. she must have a huge student loan to pay!
So what did she end up doing?

she ended up applying for army as an engineer... she'd probably be stuck there for quite a while.

is she canadian? I thought she studied design or something related.
i know this guy who is probably 40ish and just got an internship at the place that i work. it was his first job ever! I think he has a PHD too. The only reason he got it was because his wife is involved with the Canada Council for the arts and the place that i work at is an arts institution.
