must be luck of the draw!
i first bought a 12in pb which failed its hd within less then 24 hours!
good folks at frys hooked me up with another one which lasted a good 3 months before the trackpad went bad

i am gonna use an external mouse whenever i can. i don't think i can do serious graphic design werk with a trackpad.

was about $300 USD for the 2gigs... http://www.crucial.com

It's $205 for a 1 gig, the price went down
- jox0
That's a lo-oot of money though, a one-gigger is fine for ps, ill and indesign and if you're gonna do heavier work you probably shouldn't be on a laptop in the first place.

Yeah, the price is hefty.
Let's say someone purchases a 17" powerbook at $2,499 and maxed out 2 gigs of memory at $410, plus tax. Then they bought a external 30" cinema display at another $2,499, and then throw in apple care for all that bullshit. That totals to a lot of money over a computer. The other option is a $400 dell desktop, but then again it's not as sleek as a powerbook.

I have a 1Ghz titanium That I got in 2002. Never had to reload the OS. All I can say is get applecare, no matter what machine you go with. I have taken mine around the world and been very rough with it. I dropped it once and bent the display so it would not close properly and apple replaced the whole topcase. Last week my wife snapped the hinge and now they are replacing the whole display free of charge. My next machine will most likely be a 12. I have worked on 12's already and it is not that bad.

yeah, i'll still try the 12 in the apple center tomorrow. it's a whole lot cheaper..

my 15" powerbook is broken as well.
lower ram slot failure. kind of a common issue now.
but remember to get applecare.

crazy, my powerbook 'pismo'
is about 5 YEARS old and runs super. (witha g4 upgrade, 7200rpm HD and gig of RAM mind you). I guess it must be the luck of the draw.

cool.
yeah i def. go for applecare.
how much is that?

You don't need applecare unless you plan on dropping it. The factory warranty covers the hardware failures during the first year anyway. You can get applecare when the warranty ends.

Just want to point out the obvious.
Apple is going introduce an all new iBook on January 10th.
Will most likely have Intels new Yonah chip and should even blow the Powerbook out of the water.
I'd really hold of buying a Laptop till January 10th.
