Yeah Adobe's competition used to be called Corel... Although it wasn't close back when they could have been considered competition then either.

The new CS2 package is a tuff fucker to break with the new activation after 30 days thingy, it can be done but it's keeping alot more from using it then the older "just a serial CS"
So they are getting pissed off with all the copying going on, and they want it to end

skellyI'm not a 100% sure, but it's something about it runs fine for up to 30 days with a regular serial, and then it call to a adobe serial server and wants a special key # for that serial, if it's already used once, you are shit outta luck and it lock the hole package. The changes someone is gonna forget to claim it after coughing up 1K+ is -50% so it's a pretty good system.. there is always gonna be a way around it, but it's a lot trouble from what I heard..
