kyl3....
Funny, but pointless because EVERY computer company out there has payment programs and options that reduce the price of a $1000 computer to payments of $35 a month. So, essentially, you ARE calling up Dell and saying.......
"Hi apple(or dell),
this is kyl3, i can't afford a computer right now . Can I borrow one until I can afford it, I promise to buy your product when I'm ready.
thanks a million!"

So does every bank on a 1K loan..

so your saying if everyone could pay monthly installments then there would be no piracy, I doubt it.
your argument is basically since there no physical product(only intellectual) that its ok not to pay for it. Adobe isn't here to promote design at any cost. its here to provide tools for us to do our job and hopefully profit from it.

i thought the site was pretty funny.
it's not like they're going to scare away customers.

Way to put words in my mouth. I didn't say ANY of that. Do you have a problem reading? I know some software you can purchase to help you out with that.

Ok OK, I re read your post and your beef is with the tone of the piece being crybaby-ish. Now i'm clear on the matter. sorry for the misunderstanding.

No, it's intent is to profit. The tools they offer are a necessary byproduct in accruing wealth. And when I say Adobe, I am referring to the executives, not those who design and program for them who probably have a true interest in creating a great tool.

otherwise they would develop open source apps, no?

I agree that most people take it if they can't afford it and purchase later. I'm not saying that's everyone, and I'm not saying it's right, but it's pretty damn close to necessary to someone who has no money and wants to be a designer.
Like I said, it's not the best option, but it's an option, and not a horrible one if most end up buying legit once they make some dough.
How many MM or Adobe purchases are made by people who learned those programs using pirated copies as students or broke freelancers?

(Nov 15 05, 13:59)HAHAHAHHAHAHAH!
AH YOU FUCKER!
it took me a second to read it, then i sat back and was like 'hmmmm.... i don't remember adobesack.' then it hit me and i spit out my water.
HAHAHAHA oh man thanks for that laugh.
- skelly0
but there are some sweet discounts if you're a student on both MM and Adobe suites. i think MX04 was like $120.

At one point, I'm sure Adobe had some viable competition. Probably not much, but some. So, like any other brand, it put its name out there, sponsored competitions, made itself available to schools, and looked the other way when it came to piracy. It understands that just flooding the market with Adobe will create a loyal following who will eventually purchase it when the time comes.
It's hard to make the case that competition really exists since they merged with Macromedia. "Competition" is largely a mythical concept because in the end, no company wants to have to compete against other companies. They want control over the market.
So now that Adobe has complete control, perhaps they will start cracking down on piracy. But probably not, somewhere in their business model, piracy is factored in. If it proved a liability, they would make a serious effort.
But looking at the backlash towards music and movie companies, Adobe would be smart not to push people towards creating more GIMPS or other programs that can seriously compete.

ok - so i saw some posts about people wanting to buy MM products...
the thing is i can only get limited # of copy per year through employee purchase, so this will be first come first serve basis.
since this is almost year end, i don't care about using up my employee purchase limit (i get to have free access to pretty much all MM products anyway).
if anyone's interested, please send me an email with what product you want and what OS you'll be operating it on and i'll give you pricing info.
