On that Dell in the review; who wants a native res of 1920 by 1200 on a 15" screen? That's too high in my opinion for that size.

(Nov 1 05, 22:37)Actually, its nice. I had a toshiba that had 1600x1200 on a 15", not widescreen, and it was the prettiest screen i've used. I'm sure this 15" is a wide screen and looks pretty flippin rad. At first, you might think everything is too small, but when you look at the graphics, its sooo much smoother and very little pixelation is shown, unlike most SXGA and below screens.

Ok Son. Thanks for the challenge.
First, Toshiba is weak. Good for the money, but if you want top of the line (PC right?) then there are several other companies. So you don't need to get all sad.
It is time to be glad.
Falcon Northwest is probably the best High-end PC maker out there now.
Voodoo is up there and so is Alienware.
Dell's XPS laptop is pretty good. (I just bought the Inspiron 6000 and am lovin it [I have a 733 PC Descktop...])
All but Dell can be 64-bit machines. check 'em out and let me know. peace.

Dell also have the Precision laptop range for 3D work (often not shown in their catalogs)... I got the Dell M70 because of the Quadro graphics card, one of the few certified for Alias Studio Tools. Ugly, but it works well.

HP seems to be using the fastest processors out of all the laptops I've looked at so far...by a lot...3.6 and so on when others are still at 1.7 and 2. (It must be a battery drainer though...prolly why u see a lot more laptops using the Pentium M technology). Dell's Presicion 'workstation-ish' laptop must be niice. I have the Precision Workstation with dual Zeon CPU's and it kicks ass in AFX.
Oh yeah, just because PC World says Alienware Athlon 64-bit says its the fastest cpu out there...its not..by far (Maybe to your average home user which PC World aims to look out for). The Intel Zeon cpu's are twice as fast and twice as stable, are still 64-bit compatible but cost twice as much $$$ which is why it isn't really offered to your average user but only to businesses really. Also, 64-bit technology doesn't mean shit until you have an OS and progs that can handle it. Plus, since the ONLY thing good about 64-bit technology is the amount of RAM it can use, it doesn't mean shit because RAM ain't cheap...you gotta wait til that goes down. Check MAC's and DELL's site to see what adding 16 gigs of RAM costs...a hefty $23,000 extra.
If I were you, I'd wait until mid-next year to buy a laptop. Don't jump the 64-bit gun just yet. Dual-core cpu's for laptops should be coming out..hopefully...and that don't drain batteries. Get a Powerbook because they look niice. bitches.
