box of 100 thick stock cards with raised spot varnish cost about $3 bucks here in shanghai... i get different cards printed all the time !

another nice way to do the glossy look is to take a high gloss paper and hit it with a matte varnish. it really pops out the areas left glossy. And you're only using one varnish, which helps when the client is concerned about the cost.

depending on the logo, it could look goo on a thick uncoated stock with a spot varnish on the logo.

De-boss with a tinted varnish...its the hotness.

thermography is pretty common... most offset card printers will do it.
its just something you gotta use in a different way (like the goldfish) to make people notice.
know what i mean?

Thanks for the info.
I would like to find out more about the styles you guys are talking about?

you use a thick gel-ish ink.. my buddy did it... can't remember what its called but could find out if you're interested.
he printed a gold-fish 1 color (pink) with this thick ink (but still held a halftone screen).. on a matte card... looked great.

I figured so - unless the business really suited needing expensive cards as I think it would cost a lot.

not worth it

Anyone done any textured business cards where the logo is felted or has some sort of texture besides embossing? A high gloss on a matte finish might be cool as well?
Was it expensive? or worth it?
