What is interesting is Psyop did the original Lugz ad. They just happen to be a sponsor for the Cut & Paste event. Looks like Apple "cut and pasted" them.

The Apple spot is far better in execution though. For the record, I don't even really consider this a rip.

the psyop ad is a 3d environment
the apple ad is composited 2d animation with live footage of the people
the only similarities are color

I disagree..
the lugz ad was way better in my opinion, really capturing the escense of hip hop, the animated graffiti was at the moment really original and unique. The trainstation, the dancers, and on top of that.. no Eminem..
How could the apple ad be better than that if it's taking all the ideas from the same project?

then they are ripping everything that is done on Comedy central and a ton of other spots. You can't own the style , even though it is totally played out.
apples looks slicker and is executed much better.

I would be VERY surprised to learn that whoever art directed the apple video, had never seen the lugs spot. That said, I don't believe there is enough to make a judge or jury handout a copyright infringement sentence. Poor taste-yes, punishable-probably not.

I think they're part of the same vocabulary, but I honestly feel like I see treatments like this all the time. No body owns it.
