XD card error solution?

my Olympus c-5060 has an xd smart card error, everytime i try to turn on my camera and format it, do you have a program that i can use to fix it?

can you connect it straight to the pc via a usb lead rather than thru a photoprinter or camera? i.e. thru a xD connector

yeah...
and the card reads in a pc w/ the slot, but, there is no way to format it
so i got these programs, flash doctor and like two others so i have to see if they will work
