on any given day, i use the following programs:
flash
illustrator
photoshop
dreamweaver
after effects
cinema 4d
swift 3d
sorenson squeeze
premiere pro
quicktime pro
+numerous fontsand to communicate with the client:
word
excel
powerpointmost of these all update to a newer version on a regular basis
I'm attempting to go 100% legit but feeling the pressure; it's expensive.
Anyone else struggle/not struggle with this?

I feel your pain brother. I seem to numb the pain by consuming large amounts of beer. You should give that a try ;)

in reality, is there any way to tell that you're using bootlegged software or education versions? is it embedded in the code?
i've always wondered this... its not like adobe is going ot come and audit you, nor your clients...

computers dont work without software.. your screwing over the people who work on the software that allow you to make your living.. Its also offending to the others that actually pay the butt loads of money for our software

the problem for me is the outrageous price of the stuff i use every day and the frequency new versions come out at without any free upgrades.

upgrade and work it in to a new client billing

you're not going to win any awards for nobility or anything
nobody's gonna give a shit and you're gonna be thousands of dollars poorer

i know there is a whole moral edge to stealing software, but is there any real way that clients, the companies, etc are going ot find out you're using them?

As an individual not working for a company, i think its ok to use software like adobe, macromedia, etc. even if you havent bought it. If you dont work for a company it would be impossible to pay for these things.

morally i'm trying to go legit, i figure i should.
does anyone else run all legal copies at home or as a freelancer, or does everyone steal software?
If you have suggestions for a way to do it legally let me know.

I thought software "phoned in" these days

write it off.

ebay, look for previous versions, do you really need to have the latest one?
- seed0
I don't use pirated software but that would make me a bit paranoid. I think you can block outgoing communication except for certain ports. Your firewall software can alert you and deny outgoing info.

ebay, good idea.

hi, I'm the guy who pays for all my software, (and subsidises your software). I think a few of you owe me several beers...

upgrade and work it in to a new client billing

(Oct 23 05, 23:14)agreed. if you're doing it full time, that shouldn't be too hard to do.
check ebay for really old versions that can still be upgraded to the newest stuff. usually saves a good amount of $.
- jevad0
then again...you can always trawl google for some cracked serial numbers.
jox does it all the time
