1. That’s a hell of a lot of work to do, merely for the opportunity to get an interview!
They can do whatever they want - I'm sure it's a great pprocess to weed out those that probably wouldn't fit in there.
But personally I wouldn't bother
- oh come on... sounds like they wanted spec work to me********

it would be worth the time if they paid a lot, but I don't think it would be an honor to work there

I've done two tests, one for ebay and one for PBTeen.
They both sucked but I got an offer from one so I guess it was worth it.
- jevad0
and what were they like?
I'm of the opinion that if a prospective employer needs to see more than what is already in my portfolio - then it's probably not worth my time or theirs to take thigns further...

That test is fucking stupid. FI loses major points for that stunt.
And LMAO @ Ken's 2a job posting! Nice! That one was just as, if not more so clueless.
- jevad0
huh?

I'm with you Nic.
ebay was a bitch, design plus UI considerations, 'how would you improve the ebay experience' blah, blah, blah. Lots of other stuff
PBteen was more like 'redesign the homepage for the holidays'. Kinda fun actually but i doubt I would do another test for employment unless I was desperate.

Their examples of “next generation Google” look like horrible templates:

The middle 2 look like they're from template monster.

I though so too. Ha!

well, you cant argue with them. thinking that there the only design firm out there who won 2 FWA site of the year awards and was dubbed to made the portal site of 2010 by macromedia, and not to mention made the first google in flash interface. with all that, guess martin is really that serious in getting the best designers in the industry, even though it would that long.

pixel perfection? what the ?! I think if you are going to ask for someone to do this much work, the least you could do is offer a decent design brief...otherwise all you have is someone who mimics something else.
- markd0
If I wanted the job I'd do the test. What's the problem here?
- markd0
otherwise all you have is someone who mimics something else.
I'm thinking this is exactly what they want by the sounds of the test.

Martin is full of himself. Seriously, I'm tired of hearing about Internet 2.0 in their self-interviews.
- monkeyshine0
yes, I think they are interested in style over substance and someone who can recreate what has made them (presumably) successful. I think it's disappointing.
- josephm0
like i said guys, you cant blame them for being like that. as what macromedia pointed out, to be able to develop as complex as RR is something different. and you have to accept it yourself, they are just, somewhat, ahead of us. designing and developing the sites of tomorrow...gets to remind me of KIOKEN

Being demanding is one thing. This is just misguided.

get to remember the video they took it themselves saying that Saddam Hussein is not the enemy, HTML is the enemy. Flash is the successor of HTML...and that theyre not talkng 100 dpi, 200 dpi but 300 dpi...internet 2.0 thingy...heheh

"A profession that doesn't accredit itself is open to infiltration by hacks. If an employer gets burned by this enough times they will probably institute a test. We either filter out the hacks ourselves or employers will take it upon themselves to do so."
i concur.
