what you see on
is not the poster they were talking about..
this is the original
http://www.impawards.com/2005/sa…
there's a diff..
the second version is what they did to clean it up..
- ethios0
oh right, they just cropped it? anyway i thought saw was a terrible movie so im not bothered

the poster looks like d.carson overdose + the image reminds me of the world trade center...
...as for censorship, it's pretty weak to be censorsed. there's worse out there...maybe start with all those pill popping ads with small print bibles attached.
+ whoever designed it probably knew that it would be blocked/censored and therefore played the 'bad news is better than no news' caper which works every time...

I say leave it - shit the finger nails are more disturbing then the severed fingers.
- todelete__20
dude. it's two cut off bloody fingers.
that poster will be in theaters nationwide. it's pretty bad.
next up two severed heads.
censorship sucks but if you're going to put a movie poster in an area that people of all ages are going to be you have to think about ALL ages, not just the R rated audience the movie is for.

i would understand if it was a studio worried about offending their public or something, (i deal with that all the time) but it's the mpaa. which means that it's just a bunch of prudes trying to keep america in the fifties.
- scarabin0
btw, i think the poster is a fantastic solution
beautiful
- ethios0
as for the poster reminding someone of WTC....hmmmm
- scarabin0
i pretty much hate what they did with it now. by zooming in and cropping it off you lost both the design concept AND the killer layout it had
sad

I agree, poster is ugly, the 2 fingers is a cheap solution, I don't mind it in the theaters It probably won't get my eye anyways.
I say leave the poster alone, and let it be shown, who cares!

_______________i agree.
i'm not sure that the new poster is any better though [as far as not scaring kids].let's make the fingers BIGGER so that it's more obviously disgusting and the little kiddies will pee their pants!
- pascii0
as if censorship is the way to prevent children from such things. ha ha ha.... pfft
- scarabin0
kids play games all day wherein they practice killing each other. then they watch cartoons where characters kill each other. then they play video games where they kill each other in violent and inventive ways. i really doubt any kid is going to run into a corner rocking back and forth over the poster- they were even careful not to show any blood, which is more than one can say about video games or just about any movie...
- anzelina0
scarabin, you've got a point there.
all they have to do is turn on the boob tube and they'll see tons more violence.
- blaw0
pretty lame poster anyway.
when you need to resort to severed fingers you may want to rethink you're design approach.
- gfro0
WTF? I thinks it a great poster.
It caught my eye and made me stop to look at it closer when I was in th theater last week.
Perhaps the cut off finger has something to do with the movie? duh
- gruntt0
Yeah, 2 severed fingers. That's pretty weak.
*deletes the 2 severed fingers off of spec for children's ad.
- blaw0
someone gets the opportunity to do a movie poster for a horror flick and that's the best they can some up with?
i'm sorry, golden opportunity wasted in my opinion.
- nooner0
i agree. it has a very cheap feel.
- gfro0
Have you even seen the poster close up?
