A thief broke into my apartment this past Saturday night while no one was home and stole all of our DVD's, a watch of mine and a watch of my roommates.
Went through stuff in both of our rooms, but didn't steal many things of greater value like a good recording mic I have, my digital 8 track, computer stuff, cds or guitars.
I found out about it at 2am last night when my roommate called me, while I was staying out of town with my GF. Couldn't sleep all night and felt sick. The DVD's aren't that big of a deal, it's more just my space being violated, my things gone through, etc.
They took a watch my GF gave me the first Christmas we were together, and that's what sucks the most. I hate losing sentimental things the most.Anyone here been robbed, had their place broken into? I've filed a police report, doubt our stuff will be found.

I had my car broken into 3 seperate occasions, had my bike stolen as a kid but never had anyone break into my apartment.
During college, one of my friend had his place broken into, and they wrote racial slurs all over his wall.

ah shit man - sorry
:(
sounds like it could have been a lot worse though.
I have had my car broken into several times when in London - leaves you with a gutting feeling. Had my Gibson SG stolen from a show once too - all the guitars were in cases in the back room and for some reason it was mine wot got took - soooo gutted...

yah, it's weird jevad, I had a Strat and my Epiphone elec/acoustic right out in plain site in my room.
Probably were just on foot with a bag to stuff all the DVD's in. They came in through an open window in our back alley (which is supposed to be secured, but the gate doesn't work that well. going to seriously bitch out my leasing company tomorrow.) Left through the back door and left it wide open.
Packed up some stuff and brought over to my GF's tonight, cds, recording gear, a surround sound/DVD system I bought for the new place I'm moving to at the end of the month.

that sucks, bro. i feel for you.
i got broken into last summer while i was in the apartment around 4:00 in the afternoon on a sunday. i was in the kitchen and went back to my room for a second and i heard the door go open. i thought it was my roommate coming home at first, but i didn't see anyone. the guy had run back to the two back rooms past mine, came up through the bathroom and i saw him poke his head out of my room. he ran past me with his hand in his shirt with my wallet and my roommate's laptop.
when i realized he didn't have a gun or anything, i chased him for few blocks, picking up my wallet after he tossed it down, found the IDs + credit cards another block back. cops saw me chasing him and he got popped, but the laptop got fucked when he tried to ditch it.
oh the wonders of south campus at OSU.

It's just kind of scary because what if I would have been there?
That's part of why I couldn't sleep last night. Shit, I was falling asleep on a couch at my GF's dad's house, and she comes in with my phone, 5 missed calls and a message from my roommate at 2am saying "I think we were broken into."I don't think I'm overreacting, but I keep thinking, what if it was a quick trip in for the DVD's but they realized there's much more valuable stuff in the place and want to come back?
All the windows are down and locked, doors, etc. Even left lights on inside so it looks like someone is there.

I was able to remember just about every DVD I owned on the drive home this evening. It's funny, some I don't even care about rebuying. But things like the LOTR deluxe editions, my Band of Brothers box set, that pisses me off bigtime.

"my Band of Brothers box set"
the horror

I had one of my wisdom teeth smashed out with the butt of a pistol. they stole 30 bucks from me. I was out on the ground. At least they were nice enought to help me up on my feet.
- mattyd0
30 bucks to get your wisdom teeth out? sounds like a deal to me!
:)
- mg330
and it's not even mine, it's my Dads.
I think I remember that you really liked that show, right jevad?
The cop that came over though said we were lucky, but had suspicions that whoever did it had been in our place before.
We've had some workers in recently fixing stuff, and I've heard before that people like that get to scope the place out a bit and come back knowing exactly what they want to take.

(Aug 7 05, 21:32)On the bright side, that's cheaper than a dentist.

my mates car got stolen last night.
he's a cop and so is his roommate. pretty ballsy.
- mg330
they thought that too much had been contaminated already.
Whoever it was, they came in an open window in the kitchen, it's up about 7 feet off the ground. Put a bucket on the ground and climbed up that way. It's crazy though, there are windows all around there in another building, even though it's dark it's kind of risky.
But what got the cop's interest was how they moved a candle holder and cat litter box deoderant out of the window ledge inside, down onto the stairs outside, just neatly set them down.
He said that most burglars would just knock stuff like that out of the way.
Our rooms weren't that messed up, and he said the typical burglar would have just ransacked everything, turned all the drawers out on the bed, etc.
- jevad0
inside job? friends of friends?
- mg330
that's what the cop suggested.
I barely ever have people I know come over. My rommate has more people over than I do.
It just figures too. I'm moving at the end of the month, getting my own place. We broke our lease because of major problems with our unit, leasing company never fixed anything.
Our alley gate for our building has a hole where anyone can reach in and unlock the gate. I've told them about it before but they've never done anything.
They're getting an earfull from me tomorrow.
