my second HD, with all my work and administration etc. on it, is no longer visible on my desktop. Rebooted many times without result. Disk Utility can not see it either.
I'm on a Mac G4 running Panther, the disk is a 80gb MAXTOR.
is there anyway i can get this fixed with software??
one other thing i could do is have it repaired here:
http://www.aspan.nl/normal/index…but i am afraid it is gonna cost me lots of money that i don't have.
anyways, if i cannot fix this it'll be over and i could become bankrupt. so great this had to happen just when things seemed to go better, damnit!!
i really hope someone has one last option i could try out??

always back up your stuff, you should be able to get it off that HD.

did you hear clicking or strange noises coming from the drive?

ok, now some serious answers please.

My daughter's hd died and a regular mac repair shop was able toi rescue the data without all that high-priced data recovery service business.
Also, TechTool pro might work

sorry that was aimed at Jazx

i did hear some strange sounds.. which i heard before but only when i had an Adobe app running..
in the past i would force quit the adobe app but that caused more trouble this time..

somehow Adobe Photoshop has to do with this..anyone had this before?
the app is installed on the first Mac HD and not on the one that died..

THX RAND! i may look for that.

was the second drive being used as the photoshop scratch disk, where it stores what it can't fit in ram?
- BonSeff0
have you tried disconnecting the drive from the motherboard and then reconnecting it. or maybe even try hooking up that drive as the primary drive and rebooting?
- paraselene0
if you heard some fan noises happening, it might be what i experienced a few months back. and i think it was rand who sorted me out! so listen to him. good luck, sweetie!

not sure about scratch disk. not long ago i reinstalled everything and cannot remember i set the 2nd HD as scratch disk. could be though. wish i knew that now.

bonseff, yes, i disconnected the power and the data plug to the MAXTOR and connected again, remoeve dust etc. no luck. :(

you can check under photoshop prefs to see what is being used as the scratch....

just called another designer/friend close to where i live. he got a copy of techtool which i will try, if that does not work i'll go to another mac-user i know and install the MAXTOR on his computer and see if that works.
note about photoshop:
PS had serious trouble reading out a file, or even showing the preview in the "open" dialogue window, then i had to force quit, after that PS would only crash on startup everytime i tried. then files on that disk started to become inactive/dissappear.. then i rebooted which took ages and then when the finder was back up the disk was gone. completely gone.

just checked, ps did not crash on me now: there's only one scratch disk assigned which is the startup disk... hmm.. :/

sorry that was aimed at Jazx

(Jul 21 05, 08:21)wtf you talkin' about I was being serious. You can get the info off of the HD. Use another computer and test it out.

i had that on a win machine once. i could restore the data with a specialized software, but it took me ages

not sure if it has been mentioned but Disk Warrior saved my life one time.
You'll have to purchase (or borrow) the CD and boot from it.
good luck janne.
