review these images before watching ep3 and you will see what Im talking about per going way overboard in the styling of new films.

re: images. you don't have to convince me though. the look of the older star wars are a lot better and darker. ofcourse are the special fx a lot better on the new ones, but after seeing an old one again recently, i'm really don't need the sfx to be that great. the movie is still ace.

I think its a lot to do with knowing when to say when. With unlimited budgets and tech at their disposal, each movie tends to resort to fx for the mere sake of it, like a 3d expo or demo of what can be done. Used in moderation you can pull some great stuff off when needed and it's that much more effective. LOTR Trilo was a good example. When called for, they pulled together some great FX but the entire movie wasnt some razzle dazzle hollywood show pony.

yeah, true, that's why the blairwitch project was so refreshing back then as well, in this case no sfx at all, all in the style of old hitchcock suggestive styles, really a well done movie.

I was actually thinking back then, if they used really slight effects and roughed them up to liik like real video. Just subtle stuff it might have been intresting.
I think that the style of Rubber Johnny might be something like this... a very real looking / home video thing with some FX to push it into surreality.

hard to tell aftermath wise, i think it was already borderlining viewers expectations and spoiltness of image quality. so yeah maybe it could have looked better from a design pov it prolly would get less response if it would have been of a lesser quality (you know what i mean, not really lesser but lesser as in pushed lesser stylewise).

yeah, I'm thinking keep it exactly the same but just some really subtle stuff, even if it were a tree coming to life for a split second in the background of a shot or over someones shoulder. Not in a FX type way but an ultra real way... like someone caught something freaky on video. i like that they didn't show the witch, and that is best left to imagination reguardless.

i know what you mean but it's hard to imagine it in the first place, and i'm also wondering if the movie really needs it, the movie worked well as it is so basically it doesn't need any enhancements. i actually thought it was pretty cool to pull a hitchcock.

yeah...
a good friend of mine's roomate had a friend who was close with the guys who made it and aquired a copy way before it was even heard of let alone in theatres.
So he had the movie, w/out titles etc. on a VCR tape in his house and the girl I'm friends with popped it in one day looking for something to watch. She sat through the entire film thinking it was real and freaked out, thought he had some sort of snuff film or underground real death film . She was so lucky to be able to watch it that way.
