explain why media turns the public robotic pls.

nanotechnology, randoman, nanotechnology. there are these tiny machines contained within the particles of the light that hit your eyes, these work up your brain and turn you in a robot. you didn't know?

i dont know but i love your post.
post it again.

no? why does everyone else know these things?
I was watching SW ep III for the first time today and couldent make it through the first half.
You have these big clunky chunky metal robots bitching and moaning about stuff, screaming when they get shot. And the one that keeps coughing etc. What a horrible and myopic view of future robots.
If your gonna make a robot cough and bitch about stuff it should at least look human. Theres a reason your car doesnt whine when youve been driving it on a long trip.

btw for the record. everybody has been watching this design industry for a very long time. i'd say it starts at the age 0 and it ends on the day you die. so you actually already have 22 years in your pocket son and not 8.

that coughing robot from sw is actually half alien / half robot. anyways, lucas likes his robots to be human anyways (didn't he do that ultimate crap movie AI?)
- rabattski0
spielberg, lucas, whatever.

Im just saying there will be a place for cyborganic bots and war bots. But to have these war/service bots pretty much resemble concious humans in bhavior doesnt make sense. If it's a bot to entertain or similar than ok I guess. But what good is a battle bot when it complains and screams and coughs. Lucas had the right Idea in THX and A New Hope was much more tame (although you had the neurotic CP30). Even the character design just seemed way too overboard... it was like an alien costume fashion show. I mean visually it's all stunning but it become too overpowering or something.

And the overall acting was disturbing... specially S. Jackson and he's normally really good. Everytime he spoke it made me cringe like he was reading right off cue cards no emotion, so removed from everything, as were most of the actors.
I can only guess that the set was very uncomfortable and there was a lot of pressure on everyone.
- rabattski0
but isn't that a classic issue? hasn't that always been the case (pre robots would be creatures like frankenstein)? that humans want to build machines that are human as well?
- clerk0
rando, i don't think sw is trying to make sense. but interesting thoughts :)

yeah, of couse... most new proto's are demo'ed dancing and stuff. But like I said, in an entertainment setting I can see a bot having emulated emotions. But even in this day and age, real people trining in the military are tought to be robots more or less. So your telling me the robot soliders of the future will be acting more like humans than we train human soliders to act? Like who would program some big ass robocop looking thing to bitch about things and scream? It goes againt the very fabric of the military etc.
- rabattski0
sw does make a lot of sense, there are big fat red lines going thru the entire sw series, a lot of symbolism. not just good vs. bad and falling from good to bad. etc.

the underpinnings are strong as fu*k which is the only reason they can keep cranking them out. It's all very solid stuff based on Joseph Cambell in turn based on several of age old religions. This is nothing new.
On the surface it's a mess tho and with each movie it gets worse.
- rabattski0
well military wise maybe not, although, a battle robot in disguise as a human might be more effective as a holy-shit-that-robot-is-gonna-ki... design.
i think that one camp who wants it to be human is that a non-emotional robot creates to much distant. it maybe even goes as far as creating the perfect human. i dunno, this discussion is really a classic, more phylosophical and theological than practical.

that movie AI is kind of an example of that (albeit a crap movie).

ponyboy is a malfunctioning robot btw in case you wondered. he couldn't compute emotions although he wanted to share his emotions on this robot bashing thread.
