I'm using CS1 and have been using photoshop for a long long time, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to set exact numerical sizes, inches or pixels, for the marquee tool, a shape or for the position for a guide. (such as setting up proportionate lines for grids and layouts)
If you use InDesign, you're familiar with how to set exact positions for everything. Is this possible in PS? There's tons in there so maybe I've just never found it. I don't think it's my trackball that's keeping me from getting exact positions...and transform/scale doesn't help that much either.
Need more than resizing by percentage. Thanks for your help.

for the marquee just select the tool and in the menu select Exact Size from the style dropdown menu...then set your sizes and click in the doc...should give you an exact size

Awesome. Thanks. See what I mean, it was there all along.
I'm used to doing grids for very exact layouts by setting it up with shapes and then setting guide lines. This will help.

you can also get pretty specific with your grid if you go into the preferences...it's not as elaborate as freehand or anything but it usually does the trick

Also display rulers and press shift when dragging a guide to snap to ruler units.

Guides will snap to a current selection's marquee boundary when they're dragged as well...
