UK: How much would you charge for a html/css photography site, with a custom built CMS?
I thinking about £400. It's a friend of a friend thing and I can't afford to shoot myself in the foot.
I'm new to quoting for private work so forgive me...

Even for a friend, i'd say closer to £1000. Its a tricky one, I have been undercharging for the last year, just by not really knowing how much things were worth.

How extensive will yer custom CMS be?
Like just a PHP page where he can upload new piccies wi' captions??

* caution. working for friends when money is concerned can cause problems *
sounds a bit cheap

i mean "friends"

listen to undo. he's right. doing shit for family and friends needs tighter contracts and very clear agreements than usual.

It will be image upload + crop, save + sort, creating catagories and editing the site's text (say 2/3 pages of that).
The girlfriend worked with his wife - so it's not like we're close buddies... Obviously I'll get a signature on a basic contract.

good idea, moth. but i would say you don't have to be tooooooo cynical.
i wish we all worked with the barter system more often. it's more neighbourly.
- rabattski0
whoah. 400 is way too low for that. at least the 1000 as said before.
- stewart0
400,- is very very low for something like that.
well, it depends on how its going to look like, but for now i say it's too low.
- rabattski0
well often people expect cheap prices because they know you. which ofcourse is bullocks.

£400 is not enough.
You'll only end up resenting it and at the end of the day it's not even the guy's fault cos you said you'd do it for that price.....

...................................so true and they will [may] also expect unlimited changes etc without further costs ....... be careful and trust your judgment

defos, moth. he might not know how wonderful your work is.
'you're money, baby! and you don't even know it!'
- unfittoprint0
Even if it is for a friend and even if your reusing scripts without any major modifications it's still a little bit on the cheap side.
- rabattski0
mwahahahaaa deja vu undo. you've been in the same boat. so how much outstanding money do you still have with friends?
- ********0
Of course it'll look shit hot. And I think you're all right. I guess I can lower it should he tell me to fuck off - but then I'll remove something...
As a photographer I'm sure he can make £1000 in a day.
Thanks all.
- rabattski0
exactly moth, and if he doesn't like it he can look for someone else and for a 1000. and he won't find someone else who can do it for a 1000 with quality. so he'll be crawling back for you and then you'll be, ok, but the prices have gone up, now it's 1250.
- UndoUndo0
haha.
none because i have no friends now!!!!
no seriously, every couple of months there are posts here from people getting screwed left right and centre from so called "friends".
The best thing to say when working for people you know is not that they are going to get it cheaper but that they are going to get more value because of your relationship!

anyone got a basic contract they can show me?

clever one Undo!
