it's great that you're interested in learning more son about design son. not to discredit the people that you find inspirational, and although they're great designers, i don't think i'd classify them as typographers (but what do i know?)
i think you should look try and look beyond the web realm for your inspiraton/educaton. it seems from your posts that all of your influence comes from web designers.
as far as typography goes, you should definitely check out http://www.typophile.com

gabe all i have is the internet
due to a little procrasitination and also my environment isnt exactly what you would call a creative outlet, but soon as i get my shit together i'll feel more comfortable to explore outside of the internet, because i do know that typography started before the web did, so i'm sure there are more sources outside of it.
same w/ photography.
and
the people i listed work w/ type, so they are typographer's , just like me...
anyway...
thanks for the link

There's no excuse for bad typography (unless you become lazy and drink 14 Stellas while trying to design).

I love everytime my site gets posted, but....
Don't confuse me with people like hoefler & carson.
They do it to a degree where it's perfection, I just do it to a degree no one can tell its good or bad. ;d

I think there may be a bit o' confusion in this thread...
Typography is different than Type design...
Typesetter: A person who put the text together. This refers to “the good old days” when the lead was in power and printers daily paper, publishers, etc. had to have people to put together all the textsetting by hand. Later on this could also be done by machines...
Typographer: A person who has a high level of knowledge regarding typefaces, typography, printing methods etc. They used to have a precious position at publishers, letterpresses and similar institutions. They where the ones who decided what kind of typefaces to use for books and other printed material.
Type designer: A person who actually designs the typefaces. Everything from redrawings of older designs to new ones from scratch.

what is perfection?
sure every artist will reach a certain level, but some higher then others, and most of the props come from other people who say they are perfect... ahh what do i know... i just think all art all design, all creativity is in the same...
