While I feel bad for all the people who died... Why oh why is it three minutes?
It started with a special Armistice Sunday for Iraq - that was two minutes.
But three?
I thought the 1 was meant to be symbolic. Pretty soon it will be 5. Then 10. I don't get it.

I agree, seems a pointless gesture to me.
The minute of silence has been cheapened of late by its over use. You can barely go to a football match these days without observing a silence for someone or other.
My firm has just sent out an email requesting that we respect these three minutes; rememberence day, however, was completely ignored.
The people affected in south east asia have my deepest sympathy, and some of my money, but this silence serves no one.

Did anyone do the 3 mins.
I did but the rest of the office didn't, I understand what you are getting at with the 1 min but just pay your respects

it should be 59.9 seconds

I think it is most wonderful and should be respected. During a minutes silence or even 3 minutes silence I use the time to think about what and who I don't think about for most of the other time. If it is cheap to you then you are lost.

His point is that the 1 minute is symbolic as meaning something, so why switch it to 3?

3 minutes I understand is the original duration is it not?. Mind you I do often get things quite wrong.

Researchers found that 3 minutes is the average mean meridian timeframe that allows everyone classsified from stupid as a donut to clever as a giraffe as teh™ optium performance for thinking and mind construction of a sentence that has meaning. 1 minute was found to be too short for the dumberer population after research found that they could only think of two words maximum.

what's the difference anyway? its the point of doing it even for 10 seconds that counts, like giving a gift.
- chossy0
Exactly jazerator so time should not be an issue should it people.

As that article says... It's pointless when it comes on order from the government. The UK government who initially pledged a huge £14m in aid.
"We" should hang our heads in shame for 3 minutes.
I'll have my own. And it will mean more.

Disscusting simply disscusting that you should make it a political issue. I respect you for having your own way of thining about those that have lost so much but in turn I lothe what you have said.

i was in college when the oklahoma city bombing happened. the next monday in my world history class the teacher called for 90 seconds of silence.
well, he being legally blind (but still able to see and count shapes), asked the class if anyone had a watch with a second hand, i said i did. well, i was in charge of counting the 90 seconds.
i cut it short to 65 cause i just couldn't sit there and count any longer, i mean shit, he didn't know. i have never forgiven myself. :(
