When I was in Rome, I paid the bill but not the service charge as the service was shite...
Anyway... left the money on the table and the next minute the waitress is running up the road after me and the missus... she says 'there is not enough money' and I explain that I'm not paying the service... She then says I have to go and see the boss...
Next minute stood in the kitchen of the restaurant, with the boss adding up stuff on one of those ticket calculator things..
she complained to him and he went 'fair enough'
not very exciting end to the story... but i was shtitting myself when led round the back

idp: whats the idea with using your tip on tipping other waiters?
- ********0
My girlfriend once tipped a rickshaw rider in London £20. I think I nearly cried.
I didn't even want to get on the damn thing...

yeah their job is to serve you- and that service is paid for BY YOUR TIPS. I was a waiter, I made $2.66 an hour... the tip adjusted my pay rate. Without the tip, when cheap bastards like you ate food- I would have to carry your fucking drinks, your salads, your hot food, come by and fill your water, ask you how things were going- blah blah and then still only make $2.66 an hour because you left nothing.
Your suppose to tip a regular percentage just for the fact that someone is wiping your ass... you tip better depending on the quality of the service- whether or not you like the service- someone served you..period.
You say... THEN QUIT- if they don't like their job- yeah bro the world is that fucking easy- like anyone is working those jobs because the DO like it...
Why not- NOT EAT OUT if you don't like the tipping rules... go to a buffet and serve your self then-

hey puter: what you don't get is that it is the system that sucks. In a lot of countries they got 'service included' in the price. That way the waiters always get paid for their job, no matter have good or how bad they are. But still in those countries where that is the norm people still tip people that are good at what they are doing. I think waiters in the states should be upset on they employers and not on the guests.
If go to the supermarket or any other shop or business I take for granted that the people who serve me are getting paid by their employers. When I try a shirt people help me as well, should I tip them just because of that?

it's a common curtisy... if the included the price of the service in the bill than this topic would then be called:
The Bill.
And everyone would be bitching that eggs and bacon cost way too much at the dinner.
You obviously know when you are in a tipping situation. The person helping you at the clothing store is making $10.00 an hour plus commission... the person at the supermarket gets an average wage as well- the waiter makes $2.66 an hour... there is a difference.
Not having free health care sucks, paying for water sucks, shoveling snow sucks- but this is just the way it is- it's not the waiters fault you hate the rules-

Go work at the supermarket then puter. Take some responsibility for your working life and don't expect others too.

puter i'm with you 100%.
i bartended my way through college and i can tell you the wage alone wouldn't cut it for anyone.
- ********0

maybe then you could have paid those loans.
- And all the homeless should just get jobs
I love your easy world Moth... hmm maybe I'll just go be president instead.
- MLVR0
puter as i said it is the rules that sucks.
- ********0
So do I. I'll sleep better knowing I dont have to pay you as well as the loan ;)

the rules and waiters with this attitude:
"Without the tip, when cheap bastards like you ate food- I would have to carry your fucking drinks, your salads, your hot food, come by and fill your water, ask you how things were going- blah blah"
- bulletfactory0
The mail carrier brings packages directly to my door six days a week, rain or shine - yet no tip.
- ********0
yeah the attitude.. these waiters should just smile and thank you for letting them wipe your ass...
I hope that everyone of them spits in your soup.
- bulletfactory0
oh, but I do, of course, tip at bars/restaurants - generously when I can afford it.
- ********0
the mail carrier gets a starting rate of $21.50 an hour.
- ********0
these waiters should just smile and thank you for letting them wipe your ass...
-----------------
Yes. Because it's your job.
- ********0
and it's your job to pay for the service- it's how it goes bro... that is part of the deal- if you don't like it then don't use the services instead of using them and then treating the one who offered them like an asshole.
Go to McDonald's where you dont have to tip shit.
