I have an Iriver H340 GB - it rocks! - so user friendly, even picks up, and records radio, built in microphone. Colour screen, download photos straight from your camera. Kicks Ipod's ass any day. word.

OG 5gb iPod going strong still... been dropped, go shredding with it on a regular basis, scratched all to fuck and works just as good as the day i got it... yeah i only get about a 6 hour charge now but the thing is going on 4 years old soon.
absolutley no complaints... creative whatever can lick pouch.

ha, and the thing is right in front of me sits the Zen needing only the headphone jack to be resoldered.
Now I'm using it for an extra hd to hold additional music not on the ipod.

Nathan_Adams,
I'm pretty sure someone mentioned the normalization thing in iTunes before, but I think what htey were saying is it doesn't do a global normalization, just per song. does that sound right? like the iRiver (or the creative?) does global normalization. is that right?

Hey is this like the new Mac v PC thread?

I've got a zen 60GB since almost a year, and I'm very happy with it. I admitt iPod is fucking greatly designed, and it's navigation wheel is extraordinary, but if you compare the 2 products, my think is the creative wins because of it's price/features.

Sound Check IS global. I quote from the mothership itself:
"Use Sound Check to play songs at similar volumes
Since songs from different albums might have been recorded at different volumes, you may suddenly hear a song much louder or quieter than the one before it. Sound check automatically adjusts the playback volume. To turn on Sound Check, choose Settings from the iPod's main menu and select “on” next to Sound Check. To get the best Sound Check results, Sound Check should be enabled in iTunes as well."I like how those who cited this and other reasons that have since been proven uninformed have suddenly gone all quiet. funny that.

What do most of you keep your ipod EQ setting at? I've got those behind the ear Sony headphones, and found that the R&B setting is the best for a good dose of bass but allows everything to be even.
The rock setting is awful, almost all treble. I do plan to get some new headphones soon.

i am thinking i will side with the zen, sound quality is most important, and the battery life kicks

the new creative player has a OLED screen which is cool!
I heard on G4 TV people like it better then the new ipods.
