By the way you can turn this feature off.

yeah, you can turn it off after i-tunes automatically changes everything when you install it.

we are all designers, and all we are paying for is the good looks. all mp3 players are more or less the same, dont lie to yourself.
who didnt have an orgasm with just the packaging alone of the ipod? well, you paid 150 for that. the nice white clean face of the ipod another 150, 50 for the player itself, and the rest to have apples logo sit on the ipods back. gotta love it!

i use an ipod over all else because
1. It works flawlessly with itunes
and can be synced automatically2. I can use it as a hard drive to store files
3. I have OS 9 and OS X loaded on it and can boot any computer anywhere with it
4. There are tons of great freeware apps for it
5. Oh yeah and it's cute

it's not just and mp3 player...--

I don't have an iPod for the following reasons.
-I can't afford one because my wife is in school and we're basically a one income household and we decided to buy a piece of art for christmas instead of an ipod.

puter,
User friendliness has two different areas with mp3 players: connection with computer/song transfer, and use of the device itself.
I had a hell of a time getting the ipod to work properly on my pc, even with EVERY requirement met.
In the end I'm not even using itunes and am using ephpod and can drag and drop huge amounts in at one time and delete them easily. For use of the player, my previous comments stand as is.
I am sticking with it, though, because I do like all that's offered with the ipod, including whatever apps you can add to it and other stuff. No time to look into that just yet.

- songs don't appear as local drive because it's suppose to deter thief. The music industry would not have made deals with APPLE otherwise. If you haven't figured out how to grab those tunes yet...well...
### Of course I'd figured it out... Just think that it is a lot simpler and friendlier to be able to see the mp3 files. Can drag them out of a logical drive for my friends too. Creative does that.
-to create 'folders' I have to name them into albums or playlists (the latter of which I'd never use)
What else would you name them as?? Nothing like organizing your music by naming your folders of thousands of songs other things rather than what those songs are.
itunes attempts to organize your collection. This is a GREAT feature when you have 12,870 songs (like me).
### Personally I prefer folder dumping as all my mp3s are in folder albums that are 'bite sized'By the way you can turn this feature off.
### Any way to turn the folder feature on? hehe--To shuffle a selected album... in itunes type the albums name in the search bar- have shuffle on- then press play... easy as pie.
### Not talking about iTunes but thanks. On the ipod...
select artist/album/play
### That plays only the artists's tracks... not true random.--Music stops after one album is played? Huh?
### I always browse by album. When it finishes the last song in that album, it returns to the main menu and stops playing. This bugs me.--funny some complain the scroll wheel is TOO sensitive.
### Well I won't be sending you the 'pod so that you can try. Mine is insensitive... Apple can't please everyone can they?

I had one normal charger that goes directly into ipod, no other cables such as USB or Firewire.
Anyway, if it's USB they could make it charge through USB as anu other external device, but anyway. Now I'll show what is bothering me about Apple.
IPOD 20GB - 299$
Remote & Earphones - 39$
Dock - 39$So it's no more 300 bucks, now it's almost 380$. If you want to be "comfortable" . I say this because I don't consider easy volume control and charge+load functions as something I would call luxury.
But then again, that's Apple's policy... that's the thing that got Apple, once computer giant into where it is today (we can say nothing... compared to Dell, Compaq, HP). They could put a label "Nothing included" on the box of any product they make. Damn with that... I think (and I spreak in the name of many Mac users) that's wrong. Better sell me ipod for 380$ with dock (or whatever) included so I can charge the ipod and transfer songs, and earphones with control as volume is an issue.
It's frustrating when you buy something and all the time you need additional accesories in order to use it as supposed. And it's not just ipod... same for computers. Include in the price damn monitor...

i don't have an mp3 player, except for a portable movie player that can play MP3s too. with what i've read in these threads, iPod wouldn't be the best decision. features like automatic normalization of songs is priceless to me. i can't count how often i have to change the volume for each song. and a 40gb iPod costs $400? comon now. and having to use iTunes to handle all your song transfers is stupid. plain and simple. it's just a portable storage device made to play songs, there's no reason you need to go through iTunes. so i guess for me, since i'm not a decked out apple person, i'd go with something else. if you've already got the apple style going on, then yeah, keep your style and get the iPod. but comon, don't undermine other similiar products if they really do have good features.

VSLX - One end of the lead goes into the port on the back of your Mac / PC, the other goes in the iPod, you can charge it and transfer files at the same time.
Which part of this are you failing to understand?
- mg330
By not using itunes, you remove the ipodsetup.exe or something like that that is a memory hog.
ephpod is simple, drag and drop, arrange everything like it's itunes.
- Nathan_Adams0
iPod / iTunes CAN do volume normalization. It's under Settings as "Sound Check"
I fail to see how anyone can prefer to use the Finder / Explorer drag'n'drop over iTunes autosync. I'm yet to see one good reason for drag'n'drop being better.
As for shuffle. Turn shuffle mode on in the Settings. At any point in browsing - hit play - and it will queue up every song under that menu item, and shuffle them. So if you want to shuffle eveything under "Rock", go into Genres and hit Play on Rock. You can specify in the Settings whether it shuffles by songs, or by albums.

Had a RIO which was just stupid - iPod makes me dance in the street. I'm disappointed in the iTunes Store, though. Who are all those people?

It wasn't until I read Nathan_Adam's post that someone actually spoke the truth on Sound Normalisation... like he said it's not that hidden.
Bunch of haters that blame the toilet for his constipation, sometimes it's much easier to hide the fact that you're a fool by keep your mouth shut.
