dont let all these PC people tell you not to get a Mac, see, they dont own one and have no idea what a pleasure it is to use one. in your (our) filed, time=money, so while you are there trying to fix things, i am actually working. while you are worried about whatever new virus is out there, im working. while your worried about trojan this and spyware that, guess what? i am working. see, you pay more up front, get a cool looking machine that works, and you wont pay for it later. its a investment. if you can, take the hit. you monitors should work just fine and so should your drive. they are mostly off the shelf parts. i have a die hard PC friend who bought his G5 a few weeks ago and swore off PC's. anyways, not all computers are problems free, Macs have their own problems but not no where near the extent of PC's. end of rant....

PC here. XP Pro + Norton anti-virus. Never had a problem, never saw a blue screen of death, never wasted time in fixing things.

and you're richer for it too BobaFetus since you only spent half as much than if you bought a Mac.

have both .
i use my mac for.. listening to music or looking at some divx.. reading mail.. that did cost me 2700 euros.. for all the rest : graphic design, work , web print and anything that is gonna pay the bills : i use PC 's. ;about 1000 euros each..> i don't have more money to waste.. ;)but macs are definately lovely machines, i always leave on on my desk, that does the job with women ! such a shame they are so overrated now and completely left behind technically..

lol
I have a PC, WinXP-PRO, Norton Internet Security, Its a Pentium IV 3.0ghz with 1024Mo or the best DDR RAM, 2 hard disk SATA 40gb and 1 hard disk 40gb 7200rpm and one external 80gb LaCie Firewire: I never crash, i never had any viruses or trojan, my computer is fast and stable.
I also have a iBook 14" with OSX, and i really love it. Stable, OSX is pure pleasure. Like it!

If you're a proper web head you should have both.

Having both is the Key.
Go buy both now.
A PC tower and a iBook or Powerbook

i use both, but only have a pc at home. i've had some significant problems with my pc (as far as shitty spyware and a trojan spoolsv.exe slowing down my machine) but i just like the way it works with flash. also keep in mind that i (for some really stupid reason!) just purchased norton. that was my biggest mistake and may have stopped the problems i had before they happened.
i do like macs. i was about one step away from buying a ibook/powerbook but just felt that it was still too expensive (considering not just the machine but all the software i would have to purchase). that is where i drew the line.
it may still happen, but right now i'm happy with what i have.
so to help answer your question with this long-winded reply: fix the pc. think about buying a mac and all the software on top of that...if you can afford it do both.

anyone who actually gives a shit about what kind of computer someone else is using obviously has way too much time on their hands.

amen scarabin....
i think this is a bit of an homage to your thread iDp....
more sex less whining

"anyone who actually gives a shit about what kind of computer someone else is using obviously has way too much time on their hands. "
or they are just trying to help out someone who was asking a question. no need to be a dick.
- lvl_130
and let me clarify:
if it was something that was $500 or less then i would agree. i just think that buying a computer, especially for someone that doesn't have a job right now, is a hard decision and has every right to be concerned about doing so.
