Impossible?
Maybe, but it'd be interesting to at least give it a go.

..it would have to be something with sound or vibration, but then deaf people won't be able to hear it........
- vespa0
nothing is impossible save.
talk to a blind person and find out what moves them in the way visual art moves you. work out a way of translating this into an audio experience. it would be interesting! it would even add to the experience for non disabled people.

good luck then......
- vespa0
erm. deaf people can already experience the visuals.

They'd feel it though.
I haven't a clue how it'd be done, but who knows what'll happen.

....its impossible to breathe under water without oxygen...
- vespa0
tell that to Jacques Cousteau

reminds me... you know those movie shots where they zoom the depth of field to create that effect? Backgrounds drops off and foreground comes forward... I've always wondered if you can replicate that with a sound.... shifting a series of mics back and forth from a source.... and mixing back carefully.
Always thought greenwich foot tunnel with a guitar amp would work for this....Hmmmm.

except that water is impossible without oxygen, therefore what you need are gills.
- rasko40
that guy in the lift at the foot tunnel has the most boring job known to man, I think he should be jailed for criminally wasting life.

isn't that audio panning?

that disability rights site has a damn ugly layout, maybe thats what they mean by designed for the blind. If a blind person comes to my websitre, I don't think they will be offended by the lack of brail, HOW WILL THEY KNOW? It's like the brail signs they put in public places to point out restrooms etc, they're blind, they don't see the sign! and I've never seen a blind guy walking around pationatly molesting the wall for brail, unless someone points it out or they somehow find it by accident, it pretty useless. Now, I'm all for being conscientious, I wouldn't expect a girl in a wheelchair to drag herself up a flight of stairs, but a lot of these well intentioned attempts to help dissabled people, do little more than belittle them.
- vespa0
i'm assuming you've spoken to blind people Eli in order to come to the conclusion that making something work for them is belittling them

audio panning is just placing the sound in any given "space"... I'm taking more a sound effect.
Cameras can use light to make that effect, why not Mics? What happens when you record a noise Matrix-Style with 200+ microphones arranged round the source?
Hey - you put the idea in my head!

Alot of Music artists are releasing their music as CDR now, doing this lets them make 3d ausio, kinda like what your talking about moth.
- ********0
save.... that would make for great pornography.
Ahem.. back to work...
- rasko40
someone did an installation at the Whitechapel art gallery with loads of microphones/speakers like that.

'3d ausio' should read '3d audio"
