Why.
WHY can management only say yes to the inevitably impossible deadline and fuck-up my holiday?I fucking hate everyone and I want their kids to go blind.

that's an easy question. because you are a part of the money making process. while you work they make money. more money. the care more about their money and continueity (sp?) than about your holidays. it's a cut throat world.

moth it sucks. i know. i have been in the same position. although being freelance limits you a lot lot more than being employed. seriously. but. let me ask you a question: what if you would be the boss? what if it's your company and your most important client comes up with a important job? would you turn them down? would you say to your client: sorry no can do, the designers need to go on a holiday call back later? yes, it can be done in a smarter way (like hiring a temp, freelancer and let the designer go on his/her trip) but sometimes that is impossible.
