"Fifteen years behind bars for a crime that took but 15 minutes to execute.
This is the maximum prison sentence facing 24-year-old Romanian Dan Dumitru Ciobanu, suspected by authorities of developing the low-grade Internet worm "Blaster.F" that security experts suspect took him maybe a quarter of an hour to write."

"more than twice the maximum sentence for rape."
That's just plain stupid. Alright, it's a pain, but it just shows the flaws of some bad developed software.
jail Bill Gates.
- jevad0
rather - jail the idiots that develop the software.
I am no fan of virus writers - but fucks sake - HIRE them to test for holes!

if you rape a woman you get less of a sentence but if you in anyway harm our lovely corporations well then watch out.
yes yes its causes some trouble but come on. maybe the anti-virus comapnies will be willing to bail him out as its those people that keep them in their billion dollar business. hypocritical f@@@ers.
- quik0
thats fucking ridiculous.
poor bastards.

It's a fat-cat situation. he for sure should be punished in a small way, but not twice the sentence of rape. The problem is that it destroyed so many files and cost so many companies so much money. well, I guess the bottomline is don't write viruses. a bit far fetched sentence though. it just helps the anti-virus companies make more money

To be honest, I see it as a victimless crime.
I think the people who blindly open Email attachments should be punished. They're the cause of the spread. Fucking dolts.

thats the hipocrisy. The anti-virus companies make billions from it. They have to condone, accomodate and perpetuate the condition of viruses for their own survival.
Im slanted on this though because I dont think information or companies deserve better protection than people. i.e. the sentence should reflect the crime.

moth, your half-right about that, uhmmm, ok so let me now install a virus because I am too stupid not to know what a foreign .exe file is going to do. pathetic.

you'd be surprised.
I tell people in my office all the time and they still bloody do it.

Microsoft's real world product testing. A 24 year old writes a virus in 15 minutes, fucks up a whole bunch of computers, Microsoft builds a patch.
Kid goes to jail, Microsoft comes out on top. Makes me feel real confident that I'm running XP.
