I would think the same preload Javascript would work equally well for a background image displayed with CSS or inline HTML.

thanks sp.
I knew it would be pretty simple, but was going home before I could try it.
thanks again.

sorry to bring this crap thread back but I'm still having problems, nothings working.
Alright, what I've done is use the preload javascript to ummm, preload a background-image in a CSS file. Now I have this js linked externally. Do any of think maybe if I just include the whole script in the html doc, that it might work? my terminology is poor and I may have just answered my own question, but does anyone have any thoughts?
thanks.

as far as I know you can't have javascript in a .css file. To me it would wouldn't be possible because the css is being called as an external style sheet file from the html page.
It would work if you put your script in the external .js file or the header of the html page.

absolutely.
I'm just being really picky here.
my problem is that I want to preload an image used by a .css file. Its a simple rollover. there's just a split second when the image does not appear. once its loaded its golden. but it happens even after the whole page has loaded. I think you're right though, I don't think its possible.
